Halcyon cycle coaching has given me the springboard I’ve needed to get to the next level in cycling. It’s helped me achieve things I would’ve never thought I could’ve, such as riding for Great Britain as a junior in the 2017/18 Cyclo-Cross season. Chris provided coaching for me for the cycle leg in preparation for the ITU World Series Age Group Standard Distance Triathlon, Rotterdam. Not only did he provide insight and advice regarding the course itself, he made me a tailor made training programme to improve my bike performance. Chris’s plan took into account my available cycle training hours which needed to be balanced with training for the other disciplines. I was able to follow it easily and saw my cycling fitness improve massively after only 6 weeks. On the day I got a PB over the 40k distance and was only 2 minutes behind the fastest bike time. I went on to win Bronze, and am in no doubt at all that Chris’s coaching helped get me there.
Chris has been coaching me since 2015 and in that time I’ve increased my average time in the Newbury RC best all rounder competition from 23:90mph in 2015 to 26:33 mph in 2018. I’ve improved my 10 mile tt personal best from a 23:03 to a 22:03 and my 25 mile personal best from a 1:00:22 to 57:06. My standing in the national 25 mile championships has improved from 45th in 2017 to 26th in 2018, and in my first and only 100 mile tt to date i broke the NRC 100 mile tt record set in 1962 from 5:19 to 4:17. Under chris’s coaching I’ve have also qualified and represented Great Britain in two UCI world amateur competitions. None of this would have happened without Chris pushing me behind the scenes.
Having been coached by Chris for over two years now, I feel like I’ve progressed a lot as both a road and Cyclo-Cross rider. Chris’s programme is easy to follow and tailored to personal needs and my future goals.
Chris coached me for the Prudential 100 mile bike ride. The training was varied and structured to my ability, increasing fitness and ultimate goal. The training sessions were clear and concise and Chris was always available for support. In addition Chris provided nutritional and hydration advice for training and non-training days, pre and post nutrition for training sessions. The training certainly made the cycle event a lot more enjoyable and I would have no hesitation in asking Chris to coach me again for an event.
