I am a British Cycling Level 3 Road & Time Trial and Track coach and Level 2 Cyclo-Cross coach. I am also a British Cycling
"B" Accredited Derny pacer so able to motor pace riders in track training and racing.
I work with riders of all ages, helping them achieve their own personal goals. This can range from those
competing at the highest levels on the road, time trials and track and many who want to ride events like the
L'Etape du Tour or Ride London, improve their times in local time trials, take part in local sportives or just
ride a bike to enhance their general fitness.
I started competitive cycling at the age of 13 with a 5 mile time trial. I went on to
compete as a schoolboy, junior and senior rider; time trialling and racing on the
road and track.
After a nearly 30 year break from the sport during
which time I tried various other pursuits including
marathon running, triathlons, skiing and Alpine
mountaineering I finally came back to the sport of
cycling, started racing again and became a coach.
I still compete for fun and coach groups with the
coaching team at Palmer Park Velo in Reading and
at Newbury Road Club as well as individuals who
race at various levels and those who just want to
improve their performance and enjoy their cycling.
I wrote a book about my return to cycling called A 30-Year Cycle, a lighthearted look at how the
sport had changed in 30 years and my attempt to repeat the performance of my youth. It is still
available in paperback and as a download on Amazon.
I aim to approach my coaching with a calm and methodical focus to help you be the best you can
