Every season, sooner or later it happens; a Cyclo-Cross race with mud. Everyone relishes the first chance that year to show off their skills. Sunday was no exception, the promised rain finally arrived and the ground yielded up some nice slippy surfaces. Tyre choice and pressures were discussed and agreed upon and those in the pits were ready with plentiful water and fully primed pressure washers. This was me at the local Wessex League.

Halcyon coached riders had strong rides and it was great to see Tom Clarke riding well yet again in the Junior category coming 9th and Emily Conn riding herself onto the Junior podium for a third place. Gareth Jones also had another solid performance with a second place in the U16 boys.

Euan Macleod just missed out on a podium in the Junior race coming 4th after a crash on the first lap.

Meanwhile in Yorkshire, Jenson Young headed the Junior race and was second overall in round 5 of the Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Association league.

After another week of local races next week (and a trip to Belgium for Katie Scott and Jenson Young – riding for Team GB) then all eyes will be on the second round of the National Trophy competition in Irvine, Scotland.
